Cleveland, Tennessee Elks Lodge-1944 Home Fellow Elks, What a busy month it has been. I feel sometimes the best way to learn how to do a position is baptism by fire, and that I have had. Between the Elk’s state convention in Nashville and our Club Manager, Gina, keeping things hopping at the lodge; it has been quiet a busy time in my first month as Exalted Ruler. The State Convention was held in Nashville on April 2nd-5th. I had the honor of being there on the 3rd-5th. It was a very good time, and a great learning experience. My wife truly enjoyed it, as she is an avid supporter of Elkdom. Friday consisted of a business meeting from 1-5, dinner at 7 and karaoke in the hospitality pavilion to close out the evening. Saturday was meetings, a nice lunch, the evening awards banquet, site seeing, and more karaoke in the hospitality pavilion. Sunday we made our way back home. After meeting some great Elks and making new friends I am looking forward to Portland for the National Convention in July. The Lodge has had a busy month as well. The new officer’s have stepped in and hit the ground running. Milan Blake is a younger Steve Hixson with his ability to keep the Secretary’s position in check and make sure everything is going as planned. Gina has really kept us busy with activities. We all know what a wonderful time Friday’s already are at the Lodge, with Chip’s great cooking and the upbeat fast paced entertainment from Joel. On top of that we had the Collin’s Brothers perform for a packed house on April the 10th, on the 18th Gina went out on a limb and had a successful Saturday Vegas Night. We all know the Saturday evening crowd has been very low in the past, so Gina is making it her mission to pick up attendance on Saturdays. The 24th saw another good Draw down happen. I was unable to attend it due to being out of town, but I heard it was a good time for all who attended. We have created an activities committee. We want to have a slamming summer with lots of fun and entertainment. Anyone with ideas or things they would like to see pushed in this summer, please contact Gina or me before the calendar gets full. Keep in mind there is now a shuffle board table, and dart boards for all Elks and their guests to enjoy. In closing I would like to thank Cheryl for keeping me on track and helping me through this transition. It would be hard without her help.
